What Is Landfill?

Landfill is a much debated method of disposing of waste, in which the unwanted items are buried, in excavated pits - also known as "landfill sites".

It is the oldest and most common form of waste disposal, and has been used for the disposal of unwanted clothing for hundreds of years,

The problem is twofold. Firstly, is the time it takes for clothing to organically decay in landfill sites. For example, it takes about 200 years, for a Polyester Jumper to break down, and about 1,000 years, for a pair of shoes. Secondly, is the fact that Fast Fashion has created a culture of throwing away perfectly good items of clothing. This means there is thousands of tonnes of good clothing slowly degrading in landfill sites around the world.
