What Is A Jacket?
The modern Jacket is a descendent of the tunic - an upper body garment that extends from the shoulders to the hips or knees - that was worn for warmth and protection.
The term comes from the French term jaquet, which referred to a small or lightweight tunic.
A Jacket is generally tighter-fitting, and less insulative, than the heavier and more winter-adept coat.
